The police have arrested a member of a vigilante group, one Peter Ike, for allegedly shooting to death a 29-year-old student of Ogwashi Uku Polytechnic, Peter Eyorowalebo.
Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrest in Asaba yesterday, said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered the arrest of the suspect.
Edafe said the late Peter Eyorowalebo was reportedly killed in his room on April 30, 2025, at about 09:30 hours while he was reading and preparing for exams.
According to the police image maker, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogwashi-Uku received a distress call that the suspect had shot and killed the student, and he swiftly mobilized to the scene, where he found the victim in a pool of blood.
“The deceased was taken to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. His body was deposited at the mortuary for an autopsy.
“The suspect, Peter Ike, was immediately arrested, and on the instructions of the Commissioner of Police, the suspect was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a discreet investigation,” he said.
Edafe further said that the CP had ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police, attached to the State CID, to take over the case and ensure that a thorough investigation was conducted.
He also said the CP had consoled the family of the deceased and students of the Polytechnic, advising them to remain calm, saying, “No stone will be left unturned.”
