A service of songs was held in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, over the weekend to honour the life and legacy of Charles Dorgu, a prominent figure in the Ijaw Nation. Friends and associates gathered to pay their respects and celebrate his contributions to the community. The atmosphere was filled with sorrow and admiration for the industrious and illustrious leader.

Dorgu passed away on September 30, 2024, in Texas, United States, after a brief illness. Known as a strong voice for the Ijaw Nation, he advocated for peace, unity, and the struggle for the emancipation of his people.

Until his death, Dorgu served as a former Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and was a distinguished civil engineer.

As a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), he was pivotal in advancing infrastructural development across Nigeria.

During the service of songs, tributes poured in from those who knew him.

Hassan Rabiu, a former Chief of Staff to the late Dorgu, expressed deep sorrow over his passing, noting that his departure had created a palpable void among his friends and associates.

He added that Dorgu’s legacy and achievements would remain cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.

Similarly, Jator Abido, Chief Executive Officer of Yatov Consult International Ltd and National Coordinator of the Niger Delta Youth Council Worldwide, described Dorgu as a quintessential administrator whose intellectual prowess, experience, wisdom, integrity, and deep sense of patriotism would be sorely missed by the Ijaw community and Nigeria at large.
