KANO Pillars Football Club beat Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt 2-0 on Saturday as the 2014/2015 Glo Premier League Super 4 Invitational Tournament got underway in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the game started with Dolphins dominating with a better possession of the ball, which they could have turned into goals.
However, they lost their scoring chances, with Kano Pillars striker Samuel Tsonya utilizing a rare chance to score the first goal six minutes into the match.
The second goal came three minutes later, through new striker Christian Obiozor when he shot past goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi from about 25 metres out after a pass from Rabiu Ali.
Afterwards, the chances were few for both teams in the second half as the game swung from half to half with no team having clear dominance.
NAN recalls that Kano Pillars are the defending champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and will meet the Flying Eagles in their next match.
The match is slated for 3 p.m. on Monday, while the Dolphins are to face the Dream Team at 5 p.m. at the same venue.
The competition, which involves four clubs and two teams, and is holding at the mainbowl of the Abuja National Stadium, is ending on Sunday, Feb. 1.(NAN)
