Ebonyi: FG Distributes Fertilizers To Female Farmers
AS part of efforts to increase food product, by planting high yielding crops, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Saturday, freely distributed NPK fertilizers to 3,600 female farmers in Ebonyi State.
The exercise, which was performed in Abakaliki on behalf of the Federal Government by Ebonyi State Director in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Anselem Okpara, said the exercise was part of Federal Government Agricultural Transformation Agenda to boost food production.
He said the beneficiaries are those involved in dry season farming across the state, adding that under the Agenda farm inputs are provided to registered farmers at 50 per cent subsidy to help advance farmers effort at increased food production.
His words: ‘’In 2014, a total of 105,252 farmers got 210’504 bags of fertilizer in Ebonyi State. Each farmer received 12.5 Kg of rice or maize seeds through the E-wallet (telephone) system. This system guarantees that inputs get directly to farmers in the most transparent manner, thereby eliminating all forms of corruption.’’
“2015 farming programme will soon take off and over 200,000 registered farmers in the state would receive relevant inputs,” she said.
