Edo auto mishaps dip, 24 die in January
THE Edo Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said on Monday that 24 people died in 17 auto crashes in the state last month.
The Sector Commander, Mr Oluwasusi Familoni, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin.
Familoni said that most of the crashes were caused by speed violation.
He said that about 80 people sustained injuries in the crashes involving 104 people during the period.
The sector commander said however, that there was 50 per cent reduction in road crashes in January compared to the previous month.
He said that about 33 people died in 34 cases involving 147 people in December 2014.
The commander said that 1, 527 road traffic offenders were prosecuted for various offences with seat belt violation topping the list.
Familoni said that a total of 1, 210 vehicles were impounded for various offences during the period. (NAN)
