THE Imo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, has commenced talks with officials of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) on training and re-training of teachers.

   The teachers are from the 538 schools spread across the 27 local councils of the three senatorial zones of the state (Imo East, Imo West and Imo North).

  The move is part of his agenda at offering free and qualitative education in the state, if elected into office as governor in February’s polls.

    Speaking while on a campaign in Owerri North and West local councils on Thursday, Ihedioha, accompanied by a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a former governorship aspirant of the party in the state, Chief Mike Ahamba, among others, said he was sad that since inception of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of Governor Rochas Okorocha, quality education had been lacking.

    He said he would equip schools to international standards and ensure that teaching in primary, secondary and Imo state-owned tertiary schools conform to international best practices. He also promised to revamp the economy of the state.
