THE men of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State command has arrested 50 illegal immigrants residing in the state.

The state Comptroller of Immigration, Mrs Victoria Isang, who spoke to journalists in Abeokuta, said the feat was achieved due to the command’s zero tolerance for illegal entry into the country.

Given the breakdown of the number, she said they comprised 29 Beninoise, 11 Nigeriens, and 10 Togolese. She said they would be repatriated to their countries within 24 hours.

Isang said the illegal immigrants were arrested at different locations in Odeda Local Government area of the state saying, “Through our intelligence, and other avenues of tracking illegal immigrants, we were able to arrest these 50 illegal immigrants.

“We have discovered that these illegal immigrants come in through the expansive borderlines in the state”, the Immigration boss affirmed.

She added, “I want to reiterate that the state command of the Immigration Service remains committed to ensuring that the state is rid of all categories of illegal immigrants”.

Isang said her command had earlier on the February 6 repatriated a total of 69 Togolese who were illegal immigrants.

Also in 2014, she said 147 illegal immigrants were repatriated by the command, warning that foreigners in the state should steer clear from voting during the forthcoming elections, as anyone caught would be dealt with according to the laws of the land.
