NELFUND urges schools to submit student data for loan approval

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) on Tuesday requested that all approved schools upload and verify their students’ information on the new Student Loan Application System (SLAS).

NELFUND, in a public notice signed by spokesperson Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, said SLAS has now been fully digitised to streamline and accelerate the student loan processing experience for institutions and applicants.

“With this upgrade, all accredited institutions are now required to request access to SLAS to verify and upload student data related to loan applications. This is a critical step that ensures the timely processing and disbursement of approved student loans,” NELFUND said.

According to NELFUND, schools must now request access to the new platform by sending an email to [email protected].

Once access is granted, institutions will be able to log in to a real-time dashboard, where they can view their students’ applications, confirm details, and track the progress of each loan request.

NELFUND urged all institutions to take immediate action in the interest of their students, as verification and data upload by the institutions are mandatory steps before final approval and disbursement can be completed.

Students whose loan status is “Verified” are also reminded that their application still requires final approval, according to NELFUND. This will happen only after their school uploads their information. Once done, the status will change to “Disbursed” when payment is made.

“If your loan portal status currently shows “Verified,” this indicates that your application has successfully passed initial checks. However, final approval and disbursement are subject to confirmation and upload of your data by your institution.

“Once this process is completed, your status will be updated to “Disbursed” when the payment of your fees has been processed,” NELFUND said.
