THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that the Nigerian government is collaborating with the government of the Republic of Armenia to facilitate the safe evacuation of its citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran through Yerevan.
In a statement issued Saturday by the Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, it was read that preparation has reached an advanced stage.
Following the escalation of hostility between Israel and Iran, the Nigerian government said two days back that it was planning an emergency evacuation of its citizens in both countries.
The effort was however reiterated Saturday by the Charge d’ Affaires, Embassy of Nigeria in Iran, Abdulrasheed Omar Lawal, who gave the assurance during a meeting with the Acting Director, Middle East and Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Levon Petrosyan.
The Nigerian government commended Armenia’s gesture, stressing that such gesture underscored the imperativeness of international solidarity.
“This compassionate gesture by Armenia underscored the importance of international solidarity and humanitarian cooperation in times of crisis. Nigeria deeply appreciates the willingness of Armenia to assist in ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens caught in the distressing situation.
“Nigeria values the strong diplomatic relations with Armenia and looks forward to further strengthening bilateral ties in the spirit of mutual respect and shared humanity.”
The statement further assured that the Nigerian government, through its relevant agencies, is working closely with Armenian authorities and other international partners to coordinate a seamless evacuation process.
