MR.  Moses Akinmurele of the National Teachers Institute (NTI), Kaduna, on Thursday said that screening of candidates for the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme in Lagos State would commence on March 7.

Akinmurele, the NTI Coordinator for Lagos State, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the exercise would determine the number of candidates qualified for the programme.

“The screening is to ascertain if the students are qualified and competent, and to ensure that they meet the minimum requirement,” the NTI official said.

NAN reports that the institute had in April 2014 got approval for the first time to commence an Online Distance Learning (ODL) programme for the B.Ed. degree.

He said that six courses — English, Mathematics, Primary Education, Physical Education, Social Studies and Technical Sciences — would be offered in the programme.

According to him, the programme will provide an avenue for working class candidates desirous of higher qualifications in education, to achieve their dreams.

Akinmurele said the institute was equipped with seasoned facilitators to assist the students, adding that lectures would commence soon on a yet-to-be-determined date. (NAN).
