PDP wins Kebbi by-election

From Eric Meya, Birnin-Kebbi THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has maintained its dominance in Kebbi State as it won the Kebbi Central Senatorial by-election held at the weekend. Its candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, polled 285,578 out of the total of 310,800 votes cast in the polls.

His closest rival, Barrister Abubakar Sambo Mohammed of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) came a distant second as he polled 8,377 votes.

The rest of the votes were shared by the 16 other political parties that participated in the election with the African Liberation Party (ALP) coming last with 25 votes.

Kebbi Central Senatorial District became vacant when Senator Adamu Aleiro vacated it to became Minister for the Federal Capital Territory.

The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) boycotted the election on grounds that it would not be fairly handled.
