SDP sues IPAC for illegal use of logo
ONE of the political parties’ contesting in the governorship election of Enugu state, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has sued the leadership of the Interparty Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state over a published advertorial purporting it , SDP, to have endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
In the suit with reference no. E/9/2015, the plaintiffs, SDP and John Nwobodo is seeking N100,000,000 general damages against the defendants for illegally placing the logo of the SDP in an advertorial on page 4 of Sunday Vanguard of 26th October, 2014 as being part of 21 political parties in Enugu State that adopted Ugwuanyi as consensus governorship candidate.
SDP who sued Afam Ani and Ifeanyi Ogbonna, Chairman and Secretary respectively of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Enugu State claimed that they were neither privy nor signatories to any endorsement whatsoever and as such approached the court for redress.
It said that SDP has a governorship candidate in Nze Rogers Asogwa and has not adopted candidate of any other political party in the state.
The party prayed the court for an order of injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing any advertorial representing the plaintiffs thereto or as consenting to the publication or logo of the plaintiff to any publication whatsoever or howsoever without the express consent of the plaintiffs first hand and obtained.
No date has been fixed for hearing on the matter.
