U.S. grants NAFDAC laboratory accreditation

IN recognition of the efforts of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to fight drug counterfeiting in Nigeria, the U.S authorities, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and United States Pharmacopeia Convention (USP) have granted ISO 17025/IEC: 2005 laboratory accreditation to the agency’s Central Drug Laboratory at Yaba, Lagos, yesterday. 

   Yesterday’s accreditation was a result of partnership that began few years ago among NAFDAC, USP and USAID to help Nigerian pharmaceutical industry meet international standards.  

  Speaking yesterday in Lagos during the official announcement of the accreditation, which was witnessed by industry giants and World Health Organisation (WHO) officials, NAFDAC Director-General, Dr. Paul Orhii, stated that the accreditation would help the agency do its work better in its effort to meet international standards.   

 Orhii, who also got leadership award for his various innovations    in the agency, said the accreditation would “promote patronage and economic benefits to Nigeria.”
