A 19-year-old Nigerian artiste identified as Destiny was beaten to death in Ghana’s Volta Region on May 28, following an alleged financial dispute.
According to an online news medium, New National Star, Destiny, originally from Edo State, had travelled to Ghana to further his education. His trip was reportedly facilitated by a fellow Nigerian based in Ghana, who also arranged accommodation for him.
However, tensions arose when Destiny was accused of failing to remit funds related to a business venture introduced to him by the same individual.
Witness accounts indicate that the unnamed Nigerian, along with two other accomplices, confronted Destiny at his apartment, demanding an explanation regarding the missing funds. Unable to provide satisfactory answers, he was severely assaulted.
“Destiny went to Ghana to further his education, and the travel was facilitated by someone he called his street brother,” the newspaper reported, quoting an unnamed source.
“These are the same people who provided an apartment for him over there. Those who broke the news to us from there said the men introduced him to a business, which they later accused him of diverting some funds meant for the business. This angered them, and they went to his apartment and beat him up.
The beating was so intense that he felt weak and gave up the ghost in the process.”
Following the attack, the suspects allegedly left Destiny’s body in his apartment. Local authorities were notified, and police officers were dispatched to the scene. However, as of Wednesday, reports indicate that no arrests have been made in connection with his death.
Authorities in Ghana have yet to release an official statement regarding the case, while family members and concerned individuals continue to call for swift investigations and justice for Destiny.
