Nigeria’s Ihenetu-Geoffrey wins Oxford varsity prize
A Nigerian law graduate from the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo campus, Chinedu Ihenetu-Geoffrey, is winner of 2016 prestigious Oxford University Allen and overall best prize in Corporate Finance Law.
The award, according to a statement made available to The Guardian yesterday by LASU’s spokesman, Mr Adekoya Martin Ademola, is usually given to the overall best student from amongst the Master in Law and Finance (MLF) and other courses.
The feat was communicated by the award winner through an email to the Vice Chancellor of his alma mater, Prof. Lanre Fagbohun.
The excerpt of the email read thus: “Success is no guess work, it’s the product of practical engagement of tested principles. It represents the wise choice of many alternatives. I firmly believe in a relentless pursuit of excellence.”
According to Ihenetu-Geoffrey, he is “very proud of LASU, especially LASULAWS, for equipping me with the requisite tools I needed for this global achievement. I strongly believe that the academic rigours in LASU adequately laid the foundation for the demanding intellectual programme at the University of Oxford, culminating in this great success.”
The statement added that Ihenetu-Geoffrey’s achievement has once again accentuated the world-class quality of teaching and research at LASU and cemented the place of her graduates as some of the best in the world.
“Geoffrey’s award is by no means an easy feat. Apart from the fact that it was earned at one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in the United Kingdom, it was achieved after a feisty intellectual competition among 44 first class brains from 33 countries of the world,” it stated.
