Oba of Lagos seeks stronger Nigeria, UK relations, woos investors

Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has called for a deepening of the relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, especially considering the historical ties between the parties.

Speaking while hosting a delegation of the British Royal Navy in his palace in Lagos, he recalled that Nigeria has a long, rich tradition with the British.

According to the monarch, he has attended many courses in England as security personnel.

He, nonetheless, said: “The British should come up with business and factories in Nigeria because the market and the labour are here.”

He added that the Tinubu administration is ensuring that every part of the country is safe. “We have the land and labour. It will be very rewarding for any investor to come and invest now. They won’t regret it.”

The traditional ruler also urged the British government to liaise with Nigeria on a regular basis.

Responding, Rear Admiral Steve Dainton of the Royal College of Defence Studies, thanked the traditional ruler for hosting them.

He added that they are currently embarking on a course that will end in July, and some Nigerians are undertaking the course.
