Obi tasks govts on entrepreneurship development

GOVERNMENT at all levels, individuals and corporate bodies should encourage and support development of entrepreneurship in the country as a veritable way to upgrade the economy, says the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.

Speaking over the weekend in Owerri, Imo State, while commissioning the Double Day Hotels, Obi urged the different levels of government and all stakeholders to create the enabling environment for entrepreneurship to thrive.

He further commended the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the hotel and columnist with Sun Newspapers, Dr. Amanze Obi, for utilising his background to veer into entrepreneurship. He further urged the Imo State Government to patronise the outfit.

According to him, “this is a personal effort, that is why we encourage people to support it. It is very good. This shows commitment. This is what we should encourage – entrepreneurship. The system should support such. I urge not just individuals, but government of Imo State to patronise it.”

Of the investor, he said: “Obi is a good man, I have known him for years. He is committed. How many Nigerians from his background can do something like this? It shows his commitment to entrepreneurship and everything. By doing this, he will employ labour and support others, and that is what we want always.”

Meanwhile, the owner of the facility, Obi, has challenged people to research on Dubai, which he said has many shopping malls and hotels, attracting millions of people to the country yearly. He noted that it took a lot of guts to invest in the tourism industry as opinions were rife that the state, particularly Owerri, had too many hotels already.
