The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has described the extradition of Simon Ekpa from Finland as a major breakthrough in the quest for peace and security in the Southeast.
In a statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President General, and Chief Thompson Ohia, National Spokesman, the organisation commended the Federal Government’s efforts in bringing Ekpa to justice.
The group noted that Ekpa, known for orchestrating sit-at-home orders and violent attacks, has been a thorn in the flesh of the region adding that his extradition is seen as a significant step towards restoring normalcy and economic activity in the Southeast.
The organisation commended the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, for their roles in facilitating Ekpa’s extradition.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo noted that Ekpa’s actions had caused immense harm to the communities, leading to significant socio-economic disintegration.
With his extradition, the organisation anticipates a reduction in violence and a return to normalcy, allowing the region to focus on economic growth and development.
“Let it be unequivocally noted that the Igbo people harbor no sympathy for Simon Ekpa; indeed, we denounce him as a common criminal who has brought shame and disgrace not only upon himself and his immediate kin but upon all of Ndigbo.
“Therefore, we declare once more, with unwavering conviction, that at no time has the Igbo community supported his criminal conspiracies or violent acts. Let him face the full weight of justice for the grievous consequences of his actions against our people.”
