The Dero Royal Family of Ore, Odigbo Local Council of Ondo State, has called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to expedite the installation of a new Olore of Ore, a position that has remained vacant for over five years.
The family urged the governor to enforce an existing court judgement affirming their right to produce the next monarch. They expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged vacancy since the death of the last Olore in 2019, claiming the absence of a traditional ruler has hindered the development of the bustling commercial town.
Speaking during a traditional event at the family house in Ore, the head of the ruling house, Temidayo Adesanlu, appealed to the state government to act swiftly. “We have been pursuing this case since 2006, and in 2018, the court ruled in our favour. The judgement explicitly declared that the Dero ruling house should produce the next monarch. We secured this judgement even before the passing of the former Olore,” he said.
Former family head, Mrs Florence Elizari, emphasised that the stool is traditionally rotational among recognised ruling houses, accusing some individuals of attempting to undermine this arrangement. “Our forefathers settled this land. There are three family trees in Ore, and the rotation principle is clear. However, certain people are trying to disrupt this, but we have prevailed in court multiple times,” she said.
Another family leader, Moretiola Akinjeji, expressed optimism that justice would prevail. “This is our rightful heritage, and we trust God to ensure fairness. Those opposing the Dero family lack an understanding of Ore’s history. Despite multiple legal challenges, we have consistently emerged victorious,” she stated.
Youth leader Abiodun Akinriboya and family secretary Kolawole Folorunso reiterated their confidence in the state government’s intervention.
