OPD resolves over 14,000 cases

The Office of the Public Defender (OPD) charged with the responsibility of defending the voiceless in the state has resolved over 14,000 petitions and court cases between January 3 and December 31, 2017.

The Office of the Public Defender (OPD) charged with the responsibility of defending the voiceless in the state has resolved over 14,000 petitions and court cases between January 3 and December 31, 2017.

A paper issued and signed by the Director of Office of the Public Defender, showed that compensation received on behalf of clients through mediation in 2017 was N189, 074,957.

According to the paper 7470 court cases was attended to from January-December 2017; 4662 petitions received; 1300 petitions concluded and 49 rescue missions among others.

It should be recalled that since its inception, the OPD has recorded appreciable successes in defending the masses.The OPD was established in the year 2000 to serve as an agency of the Lagos State government saddled with the major responsibility of providing free legal service and other related functions to the masses, especially the less privileged and the vulnerable.
