Osun Osogbo: Adams Calls For Greater Attention On Culture

Gani Adams

Factional leader of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Chief Gani Adams has expressed concern over the poor attitude Nigerians are showing to indigenous culture, customs and tradition, saying the trend is capable of hampering the much needed development and progress in the society.

Adams noted that a nation that toys with her culture might soon lose its essence among the committee of nations.

He spoke yesterday in Osogbo, Osun state at the grand finale of the Osun Osogbo festival.

The OPC chief underscored the importance of the festival as a good avenue to improve on the nation’s tourism portfolio but regretted that both the Osun state government and the federal authorities have not given tourism the desired attention.

He said: “Osun Osogbo festival as a world heritage centre has attracted more significance in the past 10 years. However, there is a noticeable missing link this year. Osun state government did not participate well in the 2015 version and neither did the federal government play the expected role. No minister or representation from the central government was present.”
