A Returning Officer of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ikire, Irewole Local Council of Osun State, Hon Jide Joba has been shot. Joba was said to have been rushed to a hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The incident happened during the governorship election on Saturday.  Joba was said to be leaving the collation centre in Ikire on Saturday evening before he was shot.

The agent of the Peoples Democratic Party,  Hon Bamidele Salam, made this known during the announcement of results at the Headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osogbo, in the early hours of Sunday.

Salam said there was disruption of elections in some areas in Irewole. He expressed surprise that INEC didn’t disclose such an incident when accounting for the vote of Irewole Local Council.

As I speak, the PDP Returning Officer in Ikire, Irewole Local Council has been hospitalised after some hoodlums shot him. He said:  “There was an incident at the venue of collation of results in the local council after which Joba was shot.

“I had expected INEC to mention such incident and others but I haven’t heard it,” Salam informed the gathering.”
