Urges Makinde to checkmate hooliganism in schools
The Oyo State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Saki East Local Council, Emmanuel Adedokun. The House directed Adedokun to step aside till further notice and also ordered the Vice Chairman, Razaq Adeyemi, to take over the administration of the council in acting capacity.
The suspension was declared by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the plenary on behalf of the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin. The suspension followed a petition brought before the House by 11 concerned members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saki East Local Council.
The petition bothered on alleged flagrant disobedience of Governor Seyi Makinde’s directive since assumption of office at the council. The Assembly equally directed the Council Secretary to act as the vice chairman pending the conclusion of the investigation by the House Committee on Local Council and Chieftaincy Matters.
IN another development, the Assembly has called on Makinde to put measures in place to check gang violence and hooliganism among the secondary school students of the state. The directive was given, yesterday, during plenary presided by the Deputy Speaker and member representing Ona-Ara State Constituency.
The Chief Whip and member representing Atiba State Constituency, Gbenga Oyekola, in a motion seconded by a member representing Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere State Constituency, Abideen Adeoye, lamented the high rise of violence by students of secondary schools, thereby posing fear, intimidation to both students and teachers.
Oyekola called for education stakeholders’ meetings, security collaboration, setting of guidance, counselling and mentoring programmes and rigorous sensitisation against the menace for an improved social, economic and education in Oyo State.
The House also advocated the construction of toilets across the primary and secondary schools of the state for a healthy and all-inclusive teaching-learning process.
