Plateau APC flays gov for ‘reneging’ on campaign promise

Muftwang
All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has chided Governor Caleb Muftwang for allegedly failing to heed his campaign promise of retaining aides of his predecessor, Simon Lalong.

In a statement by its publicity secretary, Slyvanus Namang, the opposition party flayed the governor for suspending all those employed into the civil service from October 1, 2022.

According to him, the step contradicts his promise not to sack but to strengthen the civil service via more employment and reposition it as one of the best in the country.

He said: “Some of these innocent Plateau unemployed youths, whose source of livelihood has been terminated and their future made bleak, will be full of regrets, as some of them in the wake of all sorts of deception and outpouring of religious sentiments during the last gubernatorial election, voted for him.

Parents, who also forced their wards to vote for him with great expectation, in return would by now be licking their wounds.

“We thought that Governor Mutfwang, who said he comes from a humble background should run a government with human face rather than choosing to do things and damn the consequences.”

APC argued that all appointments made by Lalong followed due process, adding that heads charged with conduct of the exercise were men and women of proven integrity and patriotic citizens.

It added that Muftwang should have preoccupied himself with finding lasting solutions to the security challenges facing the state, especially in Mangu, his home local council, where people have been reportedly dislodged and rendered refugees.

The party continued: “Most of those displaced in over 50 communities in the local government are farmers, who produce most of the food requirements of this state and beyond, and have become so agitated and disillusioned as the planting season is fast coming to an end.

“Second, civil servants are on a strike action, which was clearly instigated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to cause disharmony between the exiting government and the workforce.”

It, therefore, called for immediate reversal of sacked and suspended public servants.
