The Progressives Foundation Movement (PFM) said the decision by the Sen. Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee (NWC) to field the former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) was in clear breach of the 1999 Constitution and the amended Electoral Act 2022.
Led by Jacob Gyang, Victor Useni and Musa Ardo, the stakeholders, in a statement, warned that the party might not have a valid candidate on the ballot paper if it remained adamant on Yilwatda’s candidacy.
The group noted: “For the records, we are bona fide members of the APC, who are duly registered as required and whose membership is in compliance with the APC guidelines and constitution.
“We painstakingly entrenched the party in the state and further indicated our respective interests to contest the governorship of Plateau under APC. We also took all the requisite steps, including buying nomination forms, believing that the processes leading to the party primaries were going to be inclusive and credible, such that its conclusion would be acceptable and capable of galvanising our collective efforts towards ensuring the victory of the party in the state.”
So, they called on the party to act responsibly by disqualifying the former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) official for APC’s unity and victory in 2023.
