Nigeria-Police-Force13Suspects granted N100, 000 bail

The Police has arraigned four suspects for alleged armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms in Anambra State.

The suspects included two catholic catechists at Nkpor, in Idemili North Local Council, but they were granted bail of N100,000 with one surety each by presiding magistrate at the Ogidi Court One, H.N Obianwu.

The suspects were arrested at Nkpor last week by officers from the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 9, Umuahia, and a gun with ammunition was recovered.

When the case came up for hearing, counsel to the suspects, CJ Asiegbu, noted that there was a subsisting court order at a High Court in the state on the same matter.

Asiegbu said the order compelled the police not to arrest or detain the suspects, pending the determination of the matter, adding that the police flouted the court order by arresting and detaining the suspects. He stressed that the same order was served on the legal department in the office of the AIG in Umuahia, as well as the complainants, Lady Juliana Onuorah and Patricia Onuorah.

The four-count charge against the suspects included illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery and forceful damage of property worth over N5m.

A part of the charge read:  “That you Daniel Nwoye, Patrick Aguluchukwu, Solomon Igboji, and others now at large on the 9th day of February, 2016 at our Lady’s complex Nkpor in the Idemili North magisterial District did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: unlawful possession of firearms and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 495 (A) of the criminal code Cap C36 Vol. II Revised laws of Anambra state 1991.
