Crowded Oshodi Market in NigeriaNO fewer that 200 persons have been arrested in Oshodi environs of Lagos State in a bid to nip crime in the bud.

Commander of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in the state, Olatunji Disu, said the operation was in response to concerns that the popular Oshodi, which was remodeled by the last administration, had started returning to its former state.

Disu said that the arrests were carried out based on disturbing security reports of activities of some miscreants in the area, which prompted the state governor Akinwunmi Ambode and the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, to direct that sanity should be brought to the area.

He added that the RRS on its part had not rested on its oars in ridding the state of all forms of criminality especially in Oshodi.

The RRS commander, who is an Assistant Commissioner of Police, expressed dismay that some juveniles were among those arrested as he added that the young people had been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs.

“Oshodi as it is at the moment is giving us a little bit of problem; the Commissioner of Police and the governor have directed that we do everything possible to bring sanity to the area. As I speak, over 200 people have been arrested in Oshodi. At a particular time we were able to remove about 23 juveniles from there and this gave us a lot of concern for having such young people being involved in criminality. Fortunately, the Women Affairs Ministry had shown interest in those children and they have been handed over to them,” he said.
