Police nab man for allegedly killing lawyer, stealing cars
THE Delta State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, Festus Okenedu for allegedly having a hand in the murder and theft of a Honda car belonging to a lawyer, Emmanuel Egwatu aged 36.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Celestina Kalu, Egwatu was reportedly shot dead last Thursday by unknown persons in Obiaruku when his Honda Accord car, with registration number, AKD 382 AA broke down.
Kalu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police told journalists in Asaba that the corpse had been taken for autopsy.
She said a day after the incident, two armed men operating in a motorbike marked ACA 833 QA allegedly robbed Abanum Julius of his olive green Toyota Camry car with registration number, BKW 892 AR at gun point within the parking lot of Winners Church Chapel, Obiaruku in Ukwani Local Council of the state.
The bandits, she disclosed, however ran out of luck when a whistleblower, a local auto electrician intimated detectives of the incident, leading to surveillance and eventual arrest of Okenedu who had come to retrieve his handset deposited with the artisan when the vehicle developed fault, while his accomplice escaped.
Kalu added that a black bag containing one laptop, some documents, a Bible and Christian tracts were recovered from the suspect, adding that the information obtained from the computer revealed that it belonged to Egwatu who was killed the previous night.
