Police probing death of Delta governor’s aide – Spokesman

Delta State Police Command said it had launched a full-scale investigation to unravel the root cause of the death of the Delta State governor’s special adviser on trade and export, Shimite Love.

Special Adviser on Trade and Export, Shimite Love, was allegedly killed by her husband in mysterious circumstances on Monday in Asaba, the State capital.

But, the command spokesperson Bright Edafe, disclosed that the Police are putting finishing touches to the matter, including an autopsy to determine the cause of the death.

“We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes,” he said

He stated that Chief Shimite Bello’s husband is currently in Police protective custody, and not under arrest, clarifying that the husband was not arrested in connection with his wife’s death.

According to SP Bright Edafe, the husband was the one who called to report that his wife had died early that morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked.

Edafe said, “It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety. We must emphasise that he is not under arrest. His custody is purely for his protection at this stage.”

He said that after this stage, the deceased’s family filed a formal complaint alleging possible foul play.

“The deceased’s family later came to the station and made an official complaint. They believe there may be more to her death and are suspicious of the husband’s involvement,” Edafe hinted.

Meanwhile, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden and tragic passing of his Special Adviser on Trade and Export, Chief Shimite Love.

Governor Oborevwori, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ekpen Ahon, in Asaba, extended his heartfelt condolences to the people of Oshimili North Local Government Area, particularly the Ebu community, mourning the loss of a respected politician.

Describing her as an accomplished, intelligent, and charismatic political figure, the Governor praised Chief Love’s commitment and excellence in every public role she held.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the loss of an exceptional professional and elegant politician who passed away in Asaba on Easter Monday,” he said.

“She served Delta State with distinction, and until her death, was diligently leading our export initiatives as Special Adviser on Trade and Export.”

The Governor lamented that her demise came at a time her expertise was most needed, noting that her absence would be deeply felt by the government and people of the state.

He offered prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul and urged God to comfort her family.
