The Managing Director, Ossiomo Power, Dr. Uwa Igiehon, on Friday tasked the Federal Government to grant more licences to private investors in the energy sector to tackle power infrastructure deficit in the country. He made the call during the tour of facilities at the Ossiomo Industrial Park located in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Council of Edo State.
According to him, the reason the country is experiencing incessant grid collapse is because some of the facilities are obsolete and should have been replaced with the modern technology.
He assured residents that his firm has the capacity to provide power solutions to several communities with no electricity following its huge investment in infrastructure and key technologies to drive the economy of Edo State.
He said with the key technologies, which include power generation, transmission, and distribution technologies, as well as digital metering and advanced payment systems, access to affordable power supply is more than ever available to Nigerians on the Ossiomo Power network.
He recalled that until the coming on board of Ossiomo Power in Edo, Ologbo community, which is its host community, was without power for six years.
“Today, we have shown you our second plant, the IPP2, which is really the focus of expansion going forward.
“We have shown you our gas supply infrastructure. We have shown you our IPP1, which was commissioned in April 2020. And we have also shown you our transmission line,” he said.
He added that the Ossiomo Power plant network now covers over 200km around Benin metropolis with provision of power to MDAs, Federal Government establishments, commercial customers, and communities.
