The world they say has become a global village, hence the need for the pair to mend their broken fences. The rounds of economic sanctions imposed on Kremlin by the United States government and the European Union, EU have indubitably dealt some shattering blows on all the aggrieved parties concern, most devastatingly of them all, Russia. It is against this backdrop of soured relationship that prompted both the US and Russia to fashion out a more robust diplomatic ways in resolving their long rift over Russia’s perceived bullying attitude towards Ukraine, an action which led to the annexation of Crimea from the pro-EU led caretaker government in Ukraine even before the country’s presidential election was conducted some time last year. The Kremlin government of president Vladmir Putin have continue to spark up political crisis in Ukraine by grooming rebels in the eastern part of the country against the Kiev government, thereby grossly undermining the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. So the so called the people’s Republic of Luhansk and Donetsk respectively were just the political machinations of Putin to destabilize Ukraine and to show off his political and military mights in the region. If a country for instance wishes to pull out of an alliance, i don’t think there are lay down restrictions to doing that under the international law with regards to alliance, especially when such country feels it is no longer benefiting immensely from such. Therefore, Mr Putin must respect the choice of Ukraine to be a member country of EU. Of course, one can understandably feel the nail-biting posture of Mr Putin having lost yet again one of the soviet union standing members to the European Union. Without mincing words, if the soviet had not crumbled in the first place, there wouldn’t have been what is known as Eastern Europe today. Russia has itself to blame over the mass secession. We would have been seeing a very formidable and united soviet if the political crises had been effectively curtailed and settled by Russia. Even though there was going to be a mass secession in the first place, a well-defined auspices should have been put in place to accommodate all the former soviet members.

Well, that is a forgone or inconsequential issue for now. The front burner issue has to do with the visit of the US Secretary of State , Mr John Kerry to Moscow which is primarily in a bid to quench the hostilities between the pair, talking about Russia and the States. Whatever issues that will be discussed during the visit, the choice of the people of Ukraine remains sancrosanct. Russia should stop the political turmoil it has since started in Ukraine by calling its separatists operating in Ukraine to order. Luhansk and Donetsk belong to Ukraine, as the continue occupation of the Russian-backed separatists or better still troops infers a pure act of international crime. The Ukrainian people have bled enough ! The political war in the eastern part of Ukraine must come to a halt as quickly as possible. The sanctions slammed on Russia must not be hurriedly removed until the Russian-backed rebels leave the shore of Ukraine.
