THE Rivers State House of Assembly yesterday screened and confirmed 20 nominees for appointment as commissioners by Governor Nyesom Wike.

Nyesom-WikeTHE Rivers State House of Assembly yesterday screened and confirmed 20 nominees for appointment as commissioners by Governor Nyesom Wike.

Those who scaled the hurdle include a former member of the House of Representatives, Chinyere Igwe and three erstwhile state lawmakers who were customarily asked to take a “bow and leave.”

Also confirmed was a non-indigene from Imo State, one Emeka Onowo.

In their submissions, the legislators expressed optimism at the calibre of persons, noting that would help in moving the state forward.

House Leader, Martin Amaewhule, said their nomination was in tandem with the vision of the state governor.

Also, the Speaker, Ikunyi Ibani, who cited Section 195 of 1999 Constitution as amended, said the screening was in order.

“The nominees screened have been confirmed commissioner-designates,” Ibani ruled.

Twenty-five legislators voted in favour of their confirmation.
