Rivers PDP accuses Buhari of carrying out witch-hunt
THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption drive would remain skewed if he failed to dissociate himself from “visibly corrupt leaders,” who are chieftains of his All Progressives Congress (APC), flocking around him.
PDP chairman in Rivers State, Felix Obuah, said the party was not impressed with the manner Buhari appeared to be carrying on with his anti-corruption activities, which it described as selective, insincere and ill conceived.
“In view of this, we believe the President and the APC government are only on a witch-hunt mission against members of the PDP, which to us is unacceptable, unjustifiable and capable of causing undue anxiety and dissatisfaction with such programmes of government at the centre.
As a responsible party, we reiterate our unflinching disposition to transparency and accountability in governance, as well as total intolerance for corruption. We do not believe that certain persons should be treated as sacred cow, while others haunted unjustly,” he said.
Obuah stated in Port Harcourt yesterday that the PDP believed that if the President was sincere and dispassionate in his efforts to bring to book allegedly corrupt leaders in the country, including former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who is being investigated for the sale of some Rivers State assets while in office.
He added that if Buhari was serious, he would not have marked certain citizens, particularly members of the PDP and those that served former President Goodluck Jonathan, for his selective punitive actions.
He explained that following discovery of cases of alleging looting of public funds and fraudulent sales of state-owned establishments by the immediate past administration in Rivers State, a judicial commission of inquiry has been duly set up by the present government to investigate and prayed the President not to shield the former governor from possible prosecution.
Obuah said that the PDP welcomed any genuine efforts at fighting corruption in the land, a stand that informed the setting of the judicial commission of inquiry in Rivers State.
The President should stop shielding APC leaders and emboldening them with appointments and treatment that negate his claimed intolerance of corrupt practices and fraudulent acts, he added.

The so called commission of inquiry is yet to conclude its investigation. Hon Rotimi Amechi has not been indicted by any competent body and so remains innocent until proven guilty by a competent Court of Law and not Court of public opinion! Obuahs remain mere allegation until proven otherwise!
We will review and take appropriate action.
