Rotary Club of Canal Estate empowers widows, indigent persons with grinding, sewing machines

The Rotary Club of Canal Estate marked a significant milestone on November 23, 2024 featuring a blend of community empowerment, membership growth and recognition of exemplary leadership within the club.

As part of its commitment to community service, the club donated vocational equipment, including grinding machines and sewing machines to indigent persons and widows.

This initiative, tagged Community Economic Empowerment, aligns with Rotary’s focus on fostering sustainable development.

The service project was spearheaded by Rtn. Razak El-Alawa, who led the commissioning and distribution ceremony alongside the club president, Rtn. Joseph Ugwu, and the District 9111 Governor, Rtn. Oluwole Kukoyi.

The event also witnessed the induction of four new members into the Rotary family.

Membership Committee Chairman Rtn. Yusuf Olayinka, presented Emele Evelyn, Obijuru Solomon, Ugwu Chika, and Nkiru Okechukwu to the district governor, who warmly welcomed them and performed the induction ceremony.

During his address, the District Governor, Rtn. Oluwole Kukoyi, commended the outstanding leadership of Rtn. Joseph Ugwu and the dedication of the club’s board members.

He said the Rotary Club of Canal Estate continues to set a remarkable example in service and impact, expressing his satisfaction with the club’s performance.

In addition, the immediate past president, Rtn. Gbolahan Akerele, seized the opportunity to request the club’s participation in the upcoming mega coconut tree planting project in Ado-Odo Ota.

The district governor assured the club of his full support for this initiative and other future endeavors.

The president-elect and event coordinator, Rtn. Chike Ikenga, expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event’s success during the vote of thanks.

He said the day’s activities reinforced the Rotary Club of Canal Estate’s unwavering commitment to service, membership growth and community development.
