Scouts threaten imposters with lawsuit, protest in Ibadan

The Scout Association of Nigeria, on Saturday, staged a peaceful protest, threatening to take legal action against some elements masquerading as leaders of the voluntary organisation.

The Chairman of the Conference of State Commissioners of Scouts of Nigeria, who doubles as Oyo State Scout Commissioner, Dr. Zack Ekanola, said some imposters are moving around states presenting themselves as leaders of the organisation.

Ekanola said Engr. Babatunde Oyetayo is the only person recognized as Scout’s Chief Commissioner and the overall national leader of the organisation.

He warned that the organisation would take the imposters and their travellers to court if they refuse to desist from such an ignoble act.

Ekanola said: “We are protesting the attempted forceful takeover of our organisation, Nigerian Scouts, by some imposters led by an individual who was once one of the leaders of the organisation six years ago. The person leading the imposters concocted a dubious story against our Chief Commissioner.

“The man in question went ahead to organise an illegal Annual General Meeting (AGM). He gathered some former leaders of the organisation to form a parallel leadership within the Scouts of Nigeria. He neglected the Scout Commissioners, real members, and leaders of the Scouts.

“That is why we are coming together to reject their antics and tactics and their impersonation. It is thuggery and rascality taken too far.

“This is the first step we are taking. After this, we are taking a big legal action against all the imposters.”
