Private security and community non-state actors have been trained on strategic ways to handle and address violence and conflict non-violently in the Niger Delta Region.
Some of the strategies include inclusiveness, community -security approaches, tips on global human rights framework, voluntary principles of security and policy on human rights. The training organised by Search for Common Ground Nigeria (SFCG), an European Union-funded organisation, is tagged “Capacity Building for Private Security Actors On Voluntary Principles On Security and Human Rights.”
It is part of EU’s continuous advocacy on Niger Delta communities as its community-centered approach to transforming criminality and violence in the oil rich region.
Training officer of SFCG, Kengkeng Ati, said the four- day training was for private security actors, who work in oil installations in selected communities across the eight local councils of Bayelsa State.
