
Senate, on Monday night, announced composition of its standing committees, just as it proceeded on a seven-week recess, which ends September 26, 2023.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced this at the end of plenary, adding that “in order to enable you enjoy your holidays, a token has been sent to your various accounts.”
However, no sooner did he make the statement than he withdrew it, saying instead: “Distinguished senators, in order for you to enjoy your holidays, the Senate President has sent some prayer points to your mail boxes.”
Among committees announced was Water Resources, headed by a former Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari. A former governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, heads the Committee on Ecology, while Eyinnaya Abaribe is in charge of Power.
Hamid Mallam heads Committee on Police Affairs as Aliyu Wamakko takes charge of Local and Foreign Debts.
A former Senate Majority Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, heads National Planning and Economic Affairs as Yemi Adaramodu leads Youths and Sports, in addition to Media and Public Affairs.
Ireti Kingibe chairs Women Affairs while Inter-parliamentary Affairs has Danjuma Goje as chairman.
A former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, is chairman of the Committee on Privatisation as Mustapha Salihu takes Agriculture.
Also, Aliu Wadada emerged chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts as Aminu Abbas was named chairman of Science and Technology.
