THE governorship candidate of Labour Party of Nigeria (LP) for the April 11 gubernatorial polls in Akwa Ibom State and the Senator representing Akwa Ibom South at the National Assembly, Helen Esuene, has called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness and sacrifice which Easter brings.

She told The Guardian Easter was the bedrock of Christianity due to the great sacrifice Christ made by offering himself freely for the redemption of mankind.

“Easter is a very unique period for Christians because it is the bedrock of Christianity that Jesus Christ came and offered himself freely as a sacrifice for the redemption of mankind .It is very unique, the time calls for inward assessment of each individual, forgive those who have hurt you and offer some sacrifice, when I say sacrifice I don’t mean as it was in the old testament, I mean in terms of doing things for people,” he said.

In the same vein, the National President of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria of (PFN) and General Superintendent, Gospel Light International, Benin, Dr. Felix Omobude called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and forgiveness exhibited by Jesus Christ who laid down his life for sinners.

Omobude said the world will be a better place if human beings embrace the spirit of Easter.

“The word Easter you may not really find in the Bible as such but significantly the Easter celebration re-enact the suffering, the death, the burial and the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This is very important to Christianity. The Bible says if Christ is not resurrected, then all those who have died are perished. Without resurrection, our gospel is in vain. We celebrate Easter. It is important for the church to continue to rehearse the story and that is what we do at Easter. We should learn sacrifice at Easter. God’s only begotten son came to this world, sacrificed his life that we might be redeemed, since he laid his life down for us, we ought to sacrifice for others, that is the message. There are so many things to learn at Easter, for example at the cross, Jesus prayed father forgive them for they know not what they are doing, “the cleric stated.
