With the economic downturn and Nigerians grappling with its effects, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, has said Nigerians should be optimistic, as President Muhammadu Buhari has commenced the journey for a better Nigeria.

He said Buhari is laying a solid foundation for a ‘secured and prosperous nation’ that Nigerians not only desire but also deserve.Lawal said the Buhari administration inherited lots of challenges, which Nigerians are aware of, though they are being tackled.

The SGF spoke during the 5th combined convocation of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, where he was named a fellow of the Institution. He said: “With our population and natural resources, our economy should be among the best in the world. What has held us down is corruption.

“Massive corruption has crippled our economy, dwarfed our individual potentials, including limiting the enterprising and intellectual capacity of our people.”

The SGF noted that government is aware of the pains Nigerians are going through and it is making efforts to reverse the negative situation and revive the economy.
