GOVERNOR Kashim Shettima of Borno State has called on the intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for this year’s hajj exercise to offer “special prayers” for Buhari’s administration in its efforts to end Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East, which has claimed many lives and property in the last six years.

The advice was made at the weekend while the governor was addressing the first batch of 320 pilgrims airlifted by Medview Airline for this year’s pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Shettima, who was visible excited on the airlift of pilgrims from Maiduguri International Airport, which was shut for about two years, said: “It is today (yesterday) gratifying that these pilgrims are being airlifted from this Maiduguri airport, as against the bitter experiences they suffer by road to travel to Jigawa and Kano for take-off to the Holy Land,” adding that the situation was attributed to politics aimed at undermining his All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

The governor also told the pilgrims that President Buhari, who just marked his first 100 days ‎in office, has demonstrated so much love for the people of the North-East geo-political zone and it was clear that the Buhari administration was committed to not only ending Boko Haram insurgency; but stimulating the economy of the region that was destroyed by terrorist activities.

“It is now therefore the duty of all citizens of the North-East,
especially those embarking on spiritual journeys, to make out time to offer prayers for the President to succeed in his effort to make the country a better place for all citizens to live,” said Shettima.

He also urged the pilgrims to pray for Borno State to speedily recover from the destructions it faced and for his administration to succeed in its plan to fix the state and reposition it to compete favourably with most progressive states in the country.

The governor, who told the pilgrims that his administration had secured one of the best accommodations for them in Makkah and Medina within close distances to the holy mosques in Saudi Arabia, said accommodation for Borno’s pilgrims ranks among the best in this year’s hajj.

A total of 2,437 pilgrims were expected to perform this year’s hajj from Borno State.
