The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has strongly condemned what it describes as a malicious smear campaign against High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) and Dr Dennis Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).
In a statement issued on Saturday, HURIWA dismissed recent allegations of kidnapping and murder against the two leaders as baseless fabrications orchestrated by criminal elements seeking to undermine their success in combating oil theft and promoting stability in the Niger Delta.
HURIWA highlighted the achievements of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) under Tompolo’s leadership, noting that the company has been instrumental in securing Nigeria’s oil infrastructure since being contracted by the Federal Government in 2022.
According to the group, Tantita has uncovered 3,963 cases of oil theft, dismantled 3,063 illegal refineries, and contributed to a 79% reduction in crude oil losses.
“Tantita’s work has not only curbed economic sabotage but also improved security in oil-producing communities,” HURIWA stated, adding that the company’s collaboration with security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, and DSS, has strengthened intelligence gathering and enforcement.
The association also praised Tantita’s adoption of advanced surveillance technologies, such as drones and satellite imagery, which have enhanced its ability to detect and prevent illegal activities.
HURIWA commended Dr Otuaro’s leadership of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, describing his reforms as transformational.
“Otuaro has shifted the programme from a stipend-based initiative to a comprehensive empowerment scheme, ensuring that ex-agitators are equipped with the skills and opportunities needed to contribute meaningfully to society,” the statement read.
The association noted that Otuaro’s emphasis on institutional capacity-building and stakeholder engagement has strengthened the programme’s long-term effectiveness.
HURIWA urged security agencies to investigate and expose those behind the smear campaign, warning that such false narratives threaten the progress made in securing the Niger Delta.
“The strides made by Tantita Security Services and the Presidential Amnesty Programme have been pivotal in reducing oil theft and fostering peace. We stand firmly in solidarity with Tompolo and Otuaro,” HURIWA stated.
The association further lauded the Federal Government for its continued support of Tantita’s operations, urging sustained collaboration to build on the successes recorded so far.
