A group of university professors from Southern Kaduna, under the aegis of the Forum of Southern Kaduna Professors (FOSKAP), has publicly acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for what they describe as growing investments in infrastructure and education within the region.
At a press briefing in Kaduna, Chairman of FOSKAP, Professor Gambo Laah, noted that Southern Kaduna is currently experiencing what he termed “a phase of significant economic and political transformation,” following years of underdevelopment. He attributed this shift to recent actions taken by both the federal and state governments.
Professor Laah stated, “As critical stakeholders of Southern Kaduna and indeed Nigeria, the Southern Kaduna Professors have resolved to, from henceforth, engineer corresponding actions to support the impactful initiatives by the government (at all levels) and by our elected and appointed representatives.”
He highlighted several recent interventions, including the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia and the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan. Additional institutions cited were the Military Command Centre and Vocational and Technology Skills Acquisition City in Samaru Kataf, the Command Secondary School in Zango Kataf, the UBEC Junior Vocational Secondary School in Jagindi, and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Study Centre in Mabuhu, Zonzon.
“These initiatives are foundational to equipping our youths with the practical skills and vocational training necessary for long-term personal and regional advancement,” Laah said.
Professor Laah specifically commended President Tinubu for authorising the Federal University and Medical Centre projects, stating, “From what we gathered, it is evident that the President is aware that Southern Kaduna has suffered neglect by successive governments. The President has proven that ubi jus ibi remedium — there is no wrong without a remedy.”
He also praised key appointments, including Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah and Professor Barnabas William Qurix as Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, respectively, of Kachia University, and Dr. Haruna Abubakar Shehu as Chief Medical Director of the Kafanchan Medical Centre. “There is no doubt that square pegs have been put in square holes,” Laah added.
Vice President Kashim Shettima was also acknowledged for his role in facilitating the federal institutions, with Laah describing his intervention as “compassionate” and consistent.
Regarding Governor Uba Sani, the forum chair noted, “Since being sworn in on May 29th, 2023, he has demonstrated that he is committed to inclusive governance. His utterances, actions, and body language indicate his sincerity of purpose and commitment to ensuring that all parts of Kaduna State enjoy the dividends of democracy.”
The forum also extended commendations to Chief of Defence Staff, Lt-Gen. Christopher Musa, and Senator Sunday Katung of Southern Kaduna, for their contributions toward development in the area.
The professors concluded by expressing their willingness to support both President Tinubu and Governor Sani for a second term in office in 2027.
