Speculation grows over possible replacement of Taraba deputy gov

Indications have emerged that the Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, may soon be replaced due to his prolonged ill health, which has kept him out of office for over nine months.

Multiple sources within the Taraba State House of Assembly and top government circles confirmed to The Guardian that the deputy speaker of the Assembly, Alhaji Hamman Adama, has received unanimous backing from all 24 lawmakers as a potential successor.

Although no formal impeachment or replacement process has been initiated, a senior legislative source disclosed that plans are underway to begin the constitutional procedures to unseat Alkali and install Adama in his stead.

“The deputy governor has been bedridden for months. We can no longer continue without a fully functioning deputy in such a critical role,” the source said.

However, in a swift rebuttal, the Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Media and Digital Communication, Emmanuel Bello, dismissed the reports as unfounded.

“No one has nominated anyone to be Deputy Governor to Dr. Agbu Kefas. Disregard any fake news,” Bello stated.

As of press time, no official statement has been released by the deputy governor’s office regarding his health status or the alleged succession plans.

But a top government official from the office admitted that they are aware of the plans in the pipeline to relieve Alkali of his position.
