The Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria YSFON has revealed its plans to revive and also introduce new competitions in its bid to give the youths more opportunities to express themselves and contribute to nation building through sports.

Speaking after the final match of the recently concluded 2016 RAMAT Cup Tournament in Kano, YSFON President, Dr. Nasir Gawuna, said all hands must be on deck to reposition the future of the Nigerian youth.

Gawuna appealed to the Nigerian Navy to help revive the popular Chief of Naval Staff U-16 boys and NOWA U-17 girls Cups that used to expose the youths to various international soccer competitions in times past.

The YSFON boss also appealed for the reintroduction of the Esuene Cup, the late MKO Abiola Cup and the Abidoye Cup, among others.

At the recently concluded RAMAT Cup, YSFON’s Technical Director, Abdulgafar Agboola, revealed that a couple of outstanding youngsters discovered in Kano would be groomed for the national youth teams, saying they would form the bulk of the new “YSFON Stars,” the national U-16 team that will participate in the Dallas Cup in the US and other international youth championships.

On his part, the National Secretary of the Youth body, Patrick Akpavuerhe, challenged the states’ YSFON executives to rise to the new reality to ensure that they were not left behind.
