States hail FG’s economic reforms as Sanwo-Olu lauds ministry

President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms have received applause from the Community of Practice, consisting of the Commissioners for Budget and Economic Planning from the 36 states of the federation.

“We note the significant increase in revenues accruing to states and local governments and debt reduction resulting from the positive impact of the Federal Government’s economic reforms,” they stated in the communiqué from their 18th CoP meeting.

“We, therefore, commend the Federal Government for its bold economic reforms that have positively impacted revenue accruing to the sub-nationals,” they added.

The meeting, which took place in Umuahia, Abia State, from May 6-8, addressed various topics, including local government autonomy, the significance of good governance, and sustainable national development. It also emphasised the necessity for collaboration among different tiers of government to enhance planning and implementation at the local level.

The commissioners also discussed the importance of promoting dialogue and knowledge-sharing among policymakers, planners, and budget officers as well as the significance of fiscal, administrative, and political autonomy for local governments in achieving transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery.

SIMILARLY, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has lauded the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI) for driving economic growth, citing recent GDP and economic indicators that demonstrate the rapidly changing trade and investment landscape.

He noted the contributions of President Bola Tinubu and the ministry to the nation’s economic progress.

A statement yesterday said the governor gave the commendation when he received the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to collaborating with the ministry to boost investment, support local businesses, and create new economic opportunities for the people of Lagos.

The minister, who was in Lagos for the National Council Meeting on Industry, Trade and Investment, expressed appreciation for the state’s support and hospitality in hosting the gathering.
