Prominent Niger Delta leader, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, urging Nigerians to allow him to complete the constitutionally permitted eight years in office.
Speaking during an interview with Arise Television, Tompolo, who is the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation and Grand Patron of the PBAT Door-2-Door Movement 2027, described President Tinubu as an experienced leader capable of steering Nigeria towards greater prosperity.
“Tinubu is a good person. He has the experience to do everything and carry this country to a higher level,” Tompolo said, stressing that the President’s current mandate and potential re-election for another four years must be respected, much like former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure. He cautioned against political unrest, urging Nigerians to allow Tinubu to serve out his full term before considering a new leadership transition in 2031.
Tompolo disclosed plans to embark on a nationwide campaign, including outreach to northern Nigeria, to rally support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“We will do our part, even go out of our boundary to the northern part of Nigeria to talk to our brothers and compatriots so that he will get a second tenure,” he said.
He noted that traditional rulers across the country have endorsed Tinubu’s leadership, expressing optimism that widespread backing would guarantee the President’s continued tenure.
Addressing concerns over potential political instability, Tompolo dismissed any notion of violence, insisting that no group held a monopoly over force and calling on all Nigerians to support the administration.
“We are appealing to everybody, and by the grace of God, everybody will support us,” he added.
Turning to the political crisis in Rivers State, Tompolo expressed confidence that the rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, would soon be resolved. He likened their relationship to that of “boy and Oga” and affirmed that Governor Fubara would firmly return to office.
“The duly elected governor of Rivers State is coming back,” he declared.
Tompolo revealed plans to travel to Abuja for discussions with President Tinubu and Wike in an effort to help resolve the lingering political tensions in Rivers State. He emphasised the President’s longstanding commitment to democracy, stating: “Our president is someone who has been protecting democracy for a very long time. There is no way he will truncate it.”
The influential Ijaw leader’s remarks come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Tompolo positioning himself as a prominent advocate for Tinubu’s continued leadership and political stability, particularly in Rivers State.
