UNIBEN hosts fourth conference on gender

The University of Benin, Benin City, will from the 24th to the 26th of September 2018 host the world as its Centre for Gender Studies (CGS) has concluded plans for its fourth international conference. The theme of the conference is ‘Gender Empowerment for Sustainable National Development.’

According to a statement issued by the centre’s director, Professor Evelyn Edosomwan, the opening ceremony holding at the Akin Deko Main Auditorium of the university’s Ugbowo Campus and beginning at 10 a.m. will feature a keynote by Senior Team Manager, Africa Programme of the Open Society Justice Initiative, human rights activist and former Chairman, National Human Rights Commission), Prof. Chidi Anselm Odinkalu.

The conference will attract academics from different institutions of higher learning, political office holders, policymakers, gender rights advocates, non-governmental organisations and civil societies from within and outside the country. Vice Chancellor of University of Benin, Professor F. F. O. Orumwense, is the chief host of the conference, which will also feature plenary sessions, gender empowerment workshops, technical sessions, and skill acquisition trainings for women.
