Victims of landmine explosion plead for assistance

Disturbed by the excruciating pains they go through on daily basis, victims of landmine explosions have appealed for humanitarian assistance from governments at all levels.

Disturbed by the excruciating pains they go through on daily basis, victims of landmine explosions have appealed for humanitarian assistance from governments at all levels.

The calls came in an event to create awareness on the problem held at the Mine Action Centre, Owerri, Imo State. In his speech at the event, a Chief Consultant on Demining, Prof. Bala Yakubu, said increased assistance by individuals and governments at all levels to victims of landmine explosions and related issues would help them meet their daily needs.

He disclosed that his office has removed several quantities of undetonated explosives and relics of landmine of the civil war in the South East and South South. A representative of the victims, Vivian Kelechi Obasi stressed need for global peace to avoid conflicts and the attendant negative consequences.
