Legendary Entertainment and Warner Brothers have confirmed that they’ll be releasing Dune: Part Two in October 2023.

The sci-fi movie Dune was released on October 22, hitting theatres and HBO Mac simultaneously. The movie, which is the biggest opening of the year for Warner Bros, earned a strong $40.1 million in the US. 

Dune cost an estimated $165million to produce and has done well overseas since its release on October 20, recording almost $225million globally at the box office. 

Film director Denis Villeneuve had made known his dream of a second part to the movie long before Warner Bros committed to the project. 

Warner Brothers on Tuesday announced that the sequel of the movie Dune: Part Two would be released on October 20, 2023, exclusively in movie +theatres. 

Dune is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 400-page sci-fi novel ‘Dune’ released in 1955. 

Dune part one featured a star-studded cast including Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya and Jason Momoa. The movie ends with Timothee Chalamet Paul Atreides, a Messianic figure at the movie’s heart seeking shelter from enemies in the desert. While, casting for the second part has not been announced, the plot of the movie follows Atreides efforts to exact revenge against the noble families who murdered his father, Duke Leto Atreides and restore himself to power. 

“I just received news from Legendary that we are officially moving forward with ‘Dune: Part Two,'” Villeneuve said in a statement”It was a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’, and I have the fans, the cast, and crew, Legendary and Warner Bros. to thank for supporting this dream. This is only the beginning.”

Toby Emmerich, Chairman Warner Bros. Pictures, added, “Denis Villeneuve has crafted a film that is both visually extraordinary and emotionally transporting, as evidenced by its global success both critically and at the box office. We are thrilled to continue on this journey with Denis and his cast and crew and our partners at Legendary, and can’t wait to bring the next chapter of this epic tale to theaters in October 2023.”
