As President Bola Tinubu marks two years in office, the New Amazons of Nigeria, a women-led civic organisation, has commended his administration for the commissioning of several infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while also expressing concern over renewed violence in Benue State.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Linda Somiari-Stewart, the New Amazons said the newly completed projects in Abuja were tangible evidence of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” being implemented by the federal government. They cited the Mabushi and Kugbo Bus Terminals, the Wole Soyinka/Onex Interchange Bridge, and ongoing road dualisation projects in Bwari and other parts of the city as critical infrastructure now improving daily life and economic activity in the capital.
“These projects are redefining mobility and economic opportunity across the Territory,” the group noted, adding that President Tinubu’s focus on infrastructure was improving transportation access and generating employment. “His commitment to building infrastructure that directly benefits the people is evident and commendable.”
The group also commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for what it described as the continued implementation of large-scale development initiatives. According to the statement, Wike’s record as Minister reflected a “legacy of accelerated delivery,” referencing his tenure as governor of Rivers State.
While highlighting the ongoing work in the FCT, the group also turned attention to the recent violence in Benue State, where attacks in Yelwata town in Guma Local Government Area resulted in multiple civilian deaths. Describing the killings as “senseless,” the New Amazons urged security agencies to respond swiftly and decisively.
“Violence against civilians, especially women and children, is unacceptable and must be addressed without delay,” the group said. It further called on leaders across political and ethnic lines to collaborate in restoring peace and ensuring justice for affected communities.
The organisation emphasised that security and national unity were essential to sustainable development, stating, “As mothers, daughters, sisters, and nation-builders, we believe every Nigerian life is sacred. Peace is the foundation of all progress.”
The New Amazons concluded by encouraging Nigerians to support the administration’s efforts while promoting unity and peaceful coexistence.
